Skaters on BFSC practice ice are expected to follow the following Right-of-Way guidelines and Traffic Patterns (see diagram below).
Right-of-Way (RoW)
FIRST RoW: A skater practicing a routine to music has priority
this skater must wear a colored sash to be easily identified
all other skaters yield
no skaters may follow the skater practicing their routine unless given permissing and wearing a sash
coaches may follow their skater while working on choreography
SECOND RoW: Skaters in lessons
THIRD RoW: Skaters spinning
FOURTH RoW: Skaters entering jumps
All other skaters
Additional Guidelines:
Skaters must actively look where they are going and keep an eye on the paths of other skaters to the best of their ability
Skaters must always look over their inside shoulder while skating backwards
NO backward spirals are allowed unless the skater is spoted by a coach or other skater
NO skaters should stand or sit in the middle of the ice.
If not skating, skaters should stand at the edges of the ice
If a skater falls and is not injured, they should get up as quickly as possible. If a skater is injured, they should remain in place until others arrive to help them.
