Siblings

Bud had three siblings and he was the youngest. This photo was taken before Bud was born.

Genevieve Mary Harman Alexander

b. July 21, 1917, in Lewistown, PA

d. October 1, 2012 in State College, PA

    • Genevieve’s birth certificate probably was listed as Viola Genevieve, but she was christened, Genevieve Mary.
    • Graduated from State College High School
    • Worked at the PSU Dairy Dept. as a secretary for 8 years.
    • She attended Thompson Business College, Harrisburg, PA.
    • Genevieve married Joe Alexander on February 16, 1946. They moved to Nebraska where she worked for the Red Cross. Later she worked at the Veteran's Hospital medical clinic doing transcription until retirement. She was in government service 41 years.
    • In her later years she returned to State College to live near her sister, niece and nephews.

Betty Jane Harman Delafield

b. September 2, 1918, in Lewistown, PA

d. December 22, 2008, in State College, PA

    • Betty was to be named Betty Geraldine. However she was born on her great grandmother’s birthday, so she was named for her.
    • Graduated from State College Area High School
    • Spent one year at Stetson University in Florida, 1.5 years at PSU
    • Betty and family lived at 442 E. College Ave, State College, PA. Bob Delafield roomed at their end of town. Betty was working at G.C. Murphy’s store and going to Penn State. One evening walking home, she fell on an icy patch. Bob and 2 others picked her up and Bob walked her home. Bob came to the house and played ball with Betty’s brother Bud (Blair) and this impressed Betty’s mother. Betty went out with the Irvin twin, one of their roomers. She went to Pittsburgh with Marie, Mary Etters and Irvins to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play. Bob didn’t like ball and didn’t want to go. The second time she went out with Irvin, Bob stopped by that evening and talked with her on the porch. Betty’s father yelled, “Betty you coming to bed or waiting for a third one to show up.” Bob took off.
    • Married Robert E. Delafield on March 15, 1941, at St. Paul's Methodist Church in State College, PA.
    • Spent many years as a homemaker and active in the local Garden Club
    • After the death of her husband, Betty worked as a telephone operator at Penn State

Kenneth Stanley Harman

b. July 28, 1920, in State College, PA

christened: June 8, 1921

d. July 9, 1926, in State College, PA, of rheumatic fever

    • Kenneth was almost 6 when he died. Both parents were with him when he died. He raised up on his bed and said, “Mommy I can’t cough.” Then he died.
    • Stanley had rheumatic fever at the same time but he was over it when Kenneth died.

    • HARMAN: -- Kenneth Stanley Harman, son of Stanley S. and Maude (Harper) Harman, passes away on Friday afternoon, July 9, at the home of his parents, at State College. Death was due to a leakage of the heart caused by inflammatory rheumatism from which he suffered for two months. Had he lived until the 28th day of this month he would have been six years of age. He is survived by his parents, two sisters, Genevieve Mary and Betty Jane, and one brother, Blair Harper Harman, all at home. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, July 12, at the home, with Rev. A. E. Mackie in charge. Burial in Pine Hall cemetery
