Headline Demo

Single Headline Solver, Demo program for Chrome or Firefox browsers.

Here an example for using the demo program below:

The encrypting alphabet for headline 5 from Jude's Headline puzzle for August 2011 is:

CN-GHOYUK-WAFXR--QVJ--M-E-

That is, the letter 'a' is encrypted as C, the letter 'b' is encrypted as N, the letter 'c' does not occur, etc.

Pasting in this encrypting alphabet, choosing a word list of about 60,000 words stored locally on my computer, and clicking on the Search button, resulted in this output:

There are 1 words that fit pattern:

Key #1: limpet

Hat length is 10, Passed 11 consistency checks.

LIMPETABCD

FGHJKNOQRS

UVWXYZ

Clicking on "slidable alphabet search" and entering '1' for the key number, resulted in:

Slidable alphabet, search result for Key #1

Note: Word lists should in plain ASCII text format. Word lists stored in this form often have file names ending in the extension '.txt'. Many word lists are available for download from the ACA website in their "resources" section.
