I am a sufferer of Ménière’s Disease and I have been doing so for about three years since this posting. I put this up now, because I haven’t done anything yet to tell people of my ailment on a large scale. Maybe there are a few others out there that feel the same way, and suffer on in silence, literally. Well, Maybe it is time we all broke that silence and told our story, like artist Ryan Adams, MMA Fighter Dana White, and Jazz Musician Les Paul!
If you have Ménière’s Disease or know someone who does, then think about supporting them.
You may ask why Silver and Gold for Ménière’s Disease? Well, it is actually for Ménière’s Disease, tinnitus, hearing loss, and a couple other hearing related issues. I have three of these. I actually suffer from Ménière’s Disease, tinnitus, and hearing loss. I should also probably wear a Burgundy for Migraines, Green for Depression, Teal for Anxiety disorder, Orange for COPD, and Yellow for Obesity. There is also a Purple and White with a snowflake in the middle for Sarcoidosis - the snowflake symbolizes the fact that no two sarcoid sufferers are effected by the disease in the same exact way.
I am NOT going to take up precious space and time by putting all those ribbons on my site. However, for the underlying issue that I have problems with every day, and see and hear difficulties daily with this disease, I am putting a virtual ribbon below. I just hope that, one day, someone will come up with a cure, or at least a way of circumventing the effects of the disease.
Ménière’s Disease is another one of those diseases that effects each person a little differently. For me, I have tinnitus, vertigo, migraines, I cannot go above 7K in elevation (unless on an airplane in a pressurized cabin), I have to be careful about travel over long distances from sea level to greater elevations because that causes the same issues (vertigo, nausea, and other problems), and finally I am experiencing hearing loss. Over the last two years, I have had a fair amount of hearing loss. It is really hard to explain to middle school students that you are losing your hearing and you cannot hear them whisper anymore when you are the school librarian. They expect you to ask them to whisper. They think they are getting mixed signals.
So, if you have Ménière’s Disease, or know someone with Ménière’s Disease, wear a silver and gold ribbon to, at least morally, support them through their difficult times ahead. MAybe even put a silver and gold ribbon on your facebook page.
Oh, and by the way, I actually took the time to draw this ribbon digitally.
If you ever decide to actually wear a silver and gold ribbon of your own, then maybe you might actually want to support someone who suffers from the disease too. Oh, if anyone is ever interested in hearing what I have to say in my ramblings about photography, and a little about politics (I try to keep it VERY little):
