Engage your students throughout your music class! Chapter members share innovative and exciting music lessons that work! Based on the principles of Orff-Schulwerk pedagogy, the lessons in this workshop will get your students up and moving, creating, and collaborating with fellow classmates.

Playful Procedures: Building a Community of Learners through a Responsive and Respectful Classroom

Guest Instructor: Matthew Stensrud, Washington D.C.


With the implementation of Responsive Classroom in elementary schools across the country, music educators can be an influential voice in the successful use of this process based, community driven and exploration centered approach. In this workshop, we’ll learn more about the basics of Responsive Classroom, how it looks in the elementary classroom, and why Responsive Classroom is a natural fit within Orff Schulwerk. So, let’s play, sing, speak, dance, move, and create!

In this workshop, we will be exploring various types of Orff instruments, including the xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, and percussion instruments. We will learn the history of these instruments, correct playing technique, and will end by playing pieces from Volume 1 by Carl Orff.

Looking Forward Together: Ideas from AOSA National Conference


Members who attend the National Conference in Kansas City, MO will share innovative and challenging lessons gleaned from national and international presenters.
