Hotel suggestions:
Imperial Hotels has several hotels within walking distance of King's
University Rooms has various budget options, including some in Waterloo, just across the river
Here are some ideas for lunch near King's.
King's venues:
Options in King's are described in this article. The standard place to have lunch is King's Kitchen, which is in the basement of Bush House (across the street from the Strand Building). Your event sticker should give you access to this building.
Nearby takeaway options:
The Route, which has Mediterranean/Middle Eastern options and salads
Crown Cafe, which also has sandwiches
Various chains: there are at least 3 Prets within easy walking distance (just walk in either direction on the Strand), there's an Ole & Steen on the Strand (this is a Danish bakery chain), there's a WatchHouse in Somerset House (coffee, some sandwiches, pastries). These all have places to sit also.
For more relaxed, sit-down meals:
Eat Tokyo has a branch nearby. They have an extensive menu with bento boxes, sushi, ramen, katsu curries, etc.
Yori (Korean food) also has a branch on Catherine Street.
Pubs- there are lots of pubs around, and many will do the classics (fish and chips, etc). (I haven't eaten at any of them, so I'm not sure which ones to recommend.)
Slightly farther away:
Pilpel for takeaway falafels, on a little alley off Fleet Street. They sometimes have a queue, but they are really quick at serving food so you won't wait long.
Seven Dials Market, which is a big indoor market with lots of food stalls.
Note: If you get takeaway and the weather is nice, there are various places to eat, like
both the Strand Building and Bush House have courtyards
the are some gardens with benches hidden behind the Strand, like Fountain Court
Lincoln's Inn Fields, which is a nearby park
