Jongbloed siblings

This webpage pretends to bring back the stories of the Jongbloed siblings Coosje (Catharina Jacoba), Henry (Hendrikus Nicolaas), Alphonse (Alphonsus Theodorus), Anton, Jaap (Jacobus) and Theo (Theodore Melchior Joachim). They were all born all of them at the dawn of the 20th century from Nicolaas Jongbloed (Born on 17.01.1876 in Weststellingwerf, Friesland) and Catharina Parijs (born in 1880) in Amsterdam in a time of opportunities and at the same time of convulsion in the Netherlands and the neighboring countries.

Three of the brothers, Henry, Alphonse and Theo, started working at the end of the 20s and early 30s with the KNSM (Koninklijke Nederlandse Stoomboot-Maatschappij, Royal Netherlands Steamship Company) and travel to the offices of the company in south america. They were based in different cities, among others Guayaquil, Buenaventura, Curacao, Panama and Paramaribo, and settled, married, had children and passed away in the new continent. Henry finally settled in New Orleans, Alphonse in Guayaquil and Curacao, and Theo in Cali and Bogotá. Anton died early in life and both Coosje and Jaap stayed in the Netherlands. Jaap join the police forces in the 30s and was fataly injured during the dutch defense against the german invasion the 12th of may 1940. Coosje married and settled in Den Haag and in time was mother, grand mother and great grand mother. Coosje was moreover the central family figure for the four brothers and they all had close contact with her.

The Jongbloed siblings are our ancestors, parents and grandparents, and unfortunately all deceased. Their children were born between the 1920s and the 1940s and some of them have passed away some quite recently as of 2021. We are their children and grandchildres, and we would like to bring back their journeys. Not only to know and to understand our past, but more importantly to recognize our family ties and to strengthen them, over decades, countries, and languages. Our family history highlights some of the struggles of the 20th century, but it also points out to the possibilities of making the large world seem closer.

Coosje's descendants live nowadays in The Netherlands, Henry's and Alphonse's descendants live in the USA and Theo's descendants live in Colombia. We, their descendants, are spread over the world. We hope this webpage brings some remembrances and make us reconnect.
