Saturday, November 14, 2026 with Gwyn Roberts: "Hidden Holborne"

"In his 1599 publication Pavans, Galliards, Almains and other Short Aeirs, Anthony Holborne assigned titles to

many of the dances, including "The Teares of the Muses", "The New-Yeeres Gift", “ nfernum", “ aradizo", "The

Sighs" and "The Fairie-Round". Understandably, these named pieces have attracted the most attention over the

centuries, but some of the best music in the collection is hidden in plain sight among the unnamed dances. We’ll

play some of these and give them titles of our own, so we’ll be tempted to play them again the next time we

open the Holborne book."
