SB 1859 Removes Trial De Novo

Bartlesville's own Senator Ford has authored Senate Bill 1859, which would strip career teachers of their right to have a dismissal appealed to District Court (Trial De Novo).  Career teachers would be treated in the same manner as non-career teachers.  The final action on whether a teacher should be dismissed would rest with the local board of education.

The bill passed the Senate Education Committee this week.  Teachers are concerned about instances when petty political differences or retribution for actions arising from a teacher doing her/his job in the classroom has led local school boards to take negative actions against good teachers.
