November Words from the Prez

Post date: Nov 17, 2012 10:58:06 AM

I had high hopes when I found out that Dr. Barresi was going to visit our school district. My hope was that she would be open to listening to our concerns, our questions, and our goals. I also hoped that all the rumors that I had heard about her would not be true. (I try to be an optimistic person.) After the visit from our state superintendent, and after months of listening to political advertisements and debates, I fully understand that no politician is ever going to give someone a straight, non-political answer to the questions that have been asked. While this is very frustrating for me as a voter, I also realize what a great privilege it is to live in a country that allows me to voice my opinion, vote for the candidate of my choice, and most of all to live in a country where men and women valued the freedom of our country that they were willing to sacrifice their lives.

In Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, he stated that, “these dead shall not have died in vain; that the nation, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” So as we look towards Thanksgiving and all the many blessings that we have to be thankful for, give thanks to those who have fought for the freedom we have and have a government that allows us to voice our opinions. I hope that you have your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving and look forward to the holiday season.
