BOND ISSUE INFORMATION

Detailed information about the bond issue is online at bruinbond.com

The bond issue is important for our staffing levels and keeping class sizes in check.  If we don't get out the vote and get support for the essentials in this bond issue, the General Fund would have to absorb all of the annual capital costs for textbooks, computers, and more. The annual budget impact is equivalent to about 29 teaching positions.

The school board has heeded a voter survey and proposed a new bond issue that is much smaller, focused on funding Essentials for Excellence over the next seven years:

About a 1/4 of the bond is for construction projects focused on the elementary schools, primarily an Early Childhood Center at Kane to get the Pre-K and Kindergarten classes out of PORTABLES.

Custer Stadium improvements were scaled back to only 3.4% of the bond. NO NEW PRESSBOX, just adding handrails, fixing the sound and lights, and improved visitors concessions.

The bond has NO EFFECT on secondary school configuration. That is a much harder nut to crack and will continue to be studied and will be the focus of a later, independent bond issue. Nothing in this bond issue ties our hands as to how the secondary schools are configured. The bond DOES supply all of the above operational essentials for ALL grade levels.
