Know Your Negotiated Agreement
Your Negotiated Agreement is a lengthy document that outlines and details the working arrangement of our certified employees within our district. Your chief negotiator, Alana Murphy, and the negotiations team work year-round to make sure that the issues that we face are addressed and worked out to our advantage and satisfaction. Take some time today to read through the agreement and reach out to Alana if you have any questions.
One hot topic is Personal Leave. Our Personal Leave is an area that is discussed frequently in administrative and negotiations meetings. Our negotiated agreement states (in part): Teachers shall be granted four (4) days each year to conduct personal business that demands the teacher’s presence at times that school is in session. This leave is noncumulative. Personal business leave may be used for family obligations but may not be utilized for entertainment, recreation, seeking or participating in other employment, or providing a service for compensation. When directed by administration to attend an activity of the teacher’s own special needs child, personal business leave will not be charged.
One (1) day may be taken at full pay. Three (3) days may be taken with sixty dollars ($60) deducted if a non-certified substitute teacher is hired or if no substitute teacher is hired, or eighty dollars ($80) deducted if a certified substitute teacher is hired. If unused, up to three (3) of these days shall be added to the teacher’s accumulated sick leave balance.

What Cool Thing Are You Doing?
Bruins on the Run will finish their fall season with the BPSF 8K on Saturday. If you find yourself free tomorrow morning come on out to Madison to cheer on our kids and teachers who are participating. This brings us to the COOL THING two of our members are doing. Shelby Boggs-Thompson (Hoover) and Lindsey Sedersten (Wayside) are serving as site coordinators, running with kids three times a week, communicating with parents, working with volunteer mentors -- they're doing a LOT of cool things with BOTR. As a small token of "we see you", BEA will be sending them each a cool gift card this week! Go Bruins!
If you are reading a good book, or listening to a great podcast, or going to a cool place or doing any cool thing, complete THIS FORM. You could win a gift card to some cool place and be featured in our enews!
