MAY DAY
Labor Conquers All
Our state motto serves as a recognition for everything that we, the OEA, are. It only stands to reason that we stand on the shoulders of the laborers who have come before and embrace in solidarity laborers all over the globe in celebration and recognition of May Day. May Day, known also as International Workers’ Day, began as a result of a general strike starting on May 1, 1886, where over 300,000 workers in the United States demanded an 8-hour work day. On May 4, that demand was granted. Our country was built with the blood, sweat, tears, and passion of our laboring ancestors. It is our duty, obligation and privilege to stand up and stand out and celebrate their efforts. It is our duty, obligation and privilege to stand up and stand out and continue to defend the democracy they built and the democracy we rely on and cherish so much. It is our duty, obligation and privilege to stand up and stand out for the laborers coming. They deserve fair and equitable working conditions.
On Friday, May 1, wear your RED FOR ED. (Be sure to snap a picture and submit it as an entry below.)
