CIVICATION -- Civication is a legislative visitation day during the legislative session. Some Civication days are one-day only (Tuesdays), and we leave from B'ville early in the morning, have breakfast at OEA, visit with our legislators at the capitol and then head home after lunch. Some Civication days are overnights. We leave Mondays after school, have dinner with OEA, spend the night at a nice hotel, have breakfast at OEA, visit with our legislators at the capitol and then head home after lunch. OEA pays for our subs.
Sign up to attend a Civication will be available beginning the first week in February. BEA officers will lead the Civications every week in March and April.
Why is Civication important? Public Education, as we all know, is what makes rough roads straight for many of our students. It provides ways for all students to lead a productive life as they pursue, liberty and happiness. And, unfortunately, many harmful policies are legislated every year. As public school educators, we must use our voices to visit with our policy makers to ensure that Public Education is protected in our state. Civication allows us time to speak succinctly about our passion for our schools and our students.
We hope you'll consider signing up for a Civication visit. It's an easy and important way to keep Public Education at the forefront of our legislators' minds.

What Cool Thing Are You Doing?
Brittney Lima, BHS, is doing cool things in her Spanish classes! "We celebrated Mexican holiday El Día de los Muertos, Day of the dead, by making clay alebrije scultures! First we sculpted them and then we painted them with bright colors and designs! Alebrijes honor artistic creativity and the beauty of the spiritual world! We had fun connecting with Hispanic Culture in a different way!" For her cool thing, Brittany will be getting a cool giftcard in school mail!
Are you doing something cool? If you are reading a good book, or listening to a great podcast, or going to a cool place or doing any cool thing, complete THIS FORM. You could win a gift card to some cool place and be featured in our enews!
