From your Presidents:
Hey everyone, welcome to another great school year! We are incredibly excited to have you all back again this year. You all are the best possible teachers for our students. With all the craziness surrounding public education in Oklahoma right now, there couldn’t be a better time to be a member of our incredible organization! We want to remind you all of the benefits available to you only as a BEA member:
You are never alone!
Right to Representation – When meeting with your administration for any reason, you are guaranteed the right to association representation as a witness to take notes and caucus with you during the meeting. Having an extra set of eyes and ears helps to calm nerves in a potentially high stress situation means there is always someone there who has your back.
Professional Protection - Not only do you have the right to representation, but OEA membership includes $1 million in civil liability insurance, and $35,000 in criminal liability for legal instances that happen in the classroom.
Negotiated Agreement – The BEA negotiation team meets annually with district administration to bargain for your rights and increased benefits in and outside of the classroom. As a BEA member, you have a say in ratifying your teacher contract. Our negotiation team works diligently to make sure you receive the maximum amount of benefits so you can spend less time worrying and more time teaching. Recent benefits won in negotiations include an increase in pay when covering classes – up to $100 for full day coverage for elementary. And $16.67 per class period for middle and secondary.
Unified Voice – Sometimes as a teacher voicing your concerns feels like shouting into the ether. Together our voices are heard when bringing concerns and issues to your administration. Members of our leadership and negotiations team meet monthly with Superintendent McCauley and site principals to address ongoing issues as they arise. If you ever have a concern, reach out to your building representative or leadership member to make sure your concern is properly addressed.
BEA Scholarship – Open to children of BEA members only during their senior year, BEA awards a $500 scholarship to one student per academic year. (Application)
Other Benefits – As a BEA member you are also entitled to free complimentary life insurance through NEA as well as $500 in travel credit for use on airline tickets, hotels, rental cars, and cruises.
We are stoked to have you as a member! If you have any questions or concerns, or want to know how you can become more involved in BEA, reach out to your building representative or BEA leadership for more information.
Sincerely,
Your Co-Presidents
Anna Thom (JP)
Nate Vance (BHS)

Thank you for your membership! We know you have a choice when it comes to your professional organization, but your choice to go with BEA is appreciated! Recently, another organization may have contacted you with their information, which is against policy, and it takes advantage of our most-helpful office staff. The graphic below paints a true picture of what our association offers in comparison to the others. (Their $2M liability insurance is great, but never has a claim reached more than the NEA coverage in ANY state. EVER. Oklahoma Statutes Citationized Title 51. Officers, Chapter 5 - The Governmental Tort Claims Act , Section 154 - Extent of Liability)

Mark Your Calendars!
