The 19.2 Volt C3 Cordless system has been produced by Craftsman for several years. They have built a lot of different tools that work with this system. There are currently five different Batteries that all work with this system.
19.2V DieHard Nicad
19.2V Craftsman Lithium Compact Battery
19.2V Craftsman Lithium Hi Capacity Battery
19.2V XCP Craftsman Compact Lithium Battery
19.2V XCP Craftsman Hi Capacity Lithium Battery
The Craftsman XCP Battery series just came out in 2013. According to Craftsman they are designed to have 20-30 percent more endurance than the Craftsman Lithium batteries. The XCP batteries will work in any Craftsman C3 tool. They also give you about 10 percent more torque than the Ni-cad or the standard lithium battery. The XCP batteries come with a built in push button "Fuel Guage".
You must have a Craftsman Lithium Charger to recharge the Lithium and XCP batteries. Many Craftsman chargers are Ni-cad only.
Multi-Chemistry Chargers
All of the Craftsman chargers that will recharge the XCP lithium and Craftsman Lithium batteries will also charge the Craftsman Nicad batteries.
I believe the C3 Series will be around for quite a while. Craftsman has a lot of interchangeable tools designed to work with these batteries.
