Rush chairs aren't those you need done in a hurry!
They are chairs with seats woven from rush.
There are two different types of rush seats -
natural, made from twisted cat-tail leaves, and fibre rush, which is made from twisted kraft paper.
A natural rush chair will be slightly darker in color.
Small tack holes under the rungs indicate that the chair was probably done with fibre rush. If no holes are visible, it was most likely done with natural rush.
Most chair makers tie off the ends of their rush, resulting in unsightly chair bottoms. With our special technique, which does NOT use staples or knots, the bottom is as beautiful as the top.
In ancient Egypt, thrones were made with rush seats.
