TOWN OF BARKSDALE
2023–2024 SNOWPLOWING POLICY NOTICE

The Town of Barksdale will be providing snowplowing services for PRIVATE DRIVEWAYS ONLY if the following conditions are met and the SNOWPLOWING AUTHORIZATION FORM is signed and placed on file with the Town of Barksdale Treasurer.  NO plowing will be done until these conditions are met.

1)   Driveways will be plowed only after all school bus and mail routes have been plowed.  All driveways must have adequate clearance, be free of stumps, rocks, boats, cars, snowmobiles, and other obstructions and be clearly marked.   Adequate turn around space must be provided.   The Town Crew will notify owners if driveways do not meet conditions and can’t be plowed.  Persons owning primary or non-primary residence that have not signed up for snowplowing service can request to have their driveway plowed or “wing back” snowbanks and will be charged an hourly rate, at the town crew availability.

2)    The only emergency requests for snow plowing will be for ambulance and fire department vehicles.

3)    Due to the large number of driveways that are plowed by the Town of Barksdale and the fact that the town roads must be plowed and sanded before driveways are started, you may feel you cannot wait for the Town Crew, and therefore; you may want to contract with a private snowplowing contractor.

4)    The Town Board will set the snowplow fees.

5)    The Town Board of Supervisors reserves the right to discontinue snowplowing services immediately if any or all conditions are not met, or the Town officials or employees receive any harassing or abusive treatment.

6)  The Town snowplow drivers will not be responsible for opening and closing gates, chains or any barriers going across driveways. It is the owner’s responsibility to make it accessible.

7)    The Town of Barksdale, its officials, and employees will not be held liable for any personal injury or property damage encountered while engaged in snowplowing on private land.

8)    Placing snow, ice, and slush onto town roads or highways is strictly prohibited.  Violators will be reported to the local law enforcement.

9)    After a large storm it can take a longer time before your driveway gets plowed.  Your patience with our crews is much appreciated.

10)    After a snowfall event, the snowplowing crew will use their own discretion whether to plow driveways.

The snowplow application along with your payment must be postmarked no later than MONDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2023.   After this date, you will not be plowed.
