Town of Barksdale Monthly Board Meeting

Date: Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.

Present: Dennis Pocernich, John Nyara; Chris Bretting, Lynn Divine; Susan Sanders

Absent: None

Other’s Present: David Lucius

Members of the Public Present: Tom Sanders

Call To Order: The meeting was called to order by Chairman Pocernich at 7:00 p.m.

Verification of Posting and Publishing: Divine confirmed it was posted and that it was sent for publication.

Approval of Previous Month’s Minutes: Bretting made a motion to dispense with reading the September 10, 2019, Minutes, seconded by Pocernich. Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS

Comprehensive Plan Update: Nothing new to report

Grant Updates: Nothing new to report.

Snowplowing: Sanders stated that to-date, 43 applications have been received for a sum of $6,400. The deadline is set for October 15th.

NEW BUSINESS:

Public Input: None.

Salt/Sand Bids: One salt/sand bid was received from Bob Olson & Company. Pocernich discovered that the bid ad had incorrectly stated the deadline for October 9th. Bids will be accepted until that date. Bretting made a motion to permit Road Foremen, Dave Lucius, to check for additional bids. If none are received he will contact Bob Olson and award him the bid with the quote of $25.26 per ton, or award the lowest bidder. The motion was seconded by Nyara. Motion carried.

Discussion Regarding Broad Band Internet: Nyara indicated that CenturyLink and Bayfield Wireless are interested in providing faster broad band internet to the area. Bayfield Wireless has requested a letter of recommendation and a future commitment of $5,000 to partner with them.

More information is needed regarding this process and it will be tabled until the November meeting.

Ondossagon School Property: Nothing new to report.

Road Foreman’s Report: Lucius reported that crack sealing has been done. The culvert work on Bjork road is complete and we will apply for County Bridge Aid for partial reimbursement. We are still waiting for Northwoods paving to complete the work on Olsen/Sannes roads. Everything is ready for snowplowing.

Clerk’s Report: The annual budget workshop was scheduled for Monday, November 4th at 5:30 p.m.

Chairman’s Report: Pocernich stated that Bridget Olson has been in contact with him. U. S. Fish & Wildlife has requested that snowplowing be done as in the past. If any unusual or suspect activities are noticed, we are to contact the Bayfield County Sheriff for assistance. Ethan Rossing trapped one beaver and pulled the dam. However, another beaver is starting to build in the same spot. We will keep an eye on the situation.

Treasurer’s Report: A copy of the Treasurer’s Report is attached.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on November 12th, at 7:00 p.m.

Monthly Bills: Nyara made a motion to accept and approve the monthly bills as presented, seconded by Bretting. Motion carried.

Adjournment: There being no further business to conduct, the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
