This is an international collaboration with a Research Center and Hospital in Thailand where camera-based sensors, optical sensors, and pressure sensors are fused together to help monitoring the patients activities. The objectives of this project are to develop a video analytic system to monitor and study risky behaviors of patients in neurological and rehabilitation wards. In particular, the project investigates the following events:

  • Bed occupancy - In the expected time of presence, patients are supposed to be in their beds and they can be away from the camera sight for a limited time period. Particular patients are not supposed to sit or be present in a risky area on the bed such as patients with some special medical treatments.
  • Extubation - Extubation could cause serious consequences and a higher risk of death. A quick response and immediate intubation can reduce the physical damage and lower the risk of death.
  • Falls occur during transferring and moving on corridor and there are three types of falls:
    1. Anticipated Falls (78% of falls) based on medical records,
    2. Unanticipated Falls by sudden symptoms and
    3. Accidental Falls.
