Summer Sandlot Baseball

posted Jul 12, 2013, 9:49 AM by Bartlesville Area Amateur Baseball

Finally time for Summer Sandlot at BAAB. This is wood bat only, no coaches (you wouldn't believe how frustrated that makes certain "coach" dads) , no umpires, new teams every night, machine pitch baseball, nobody walks, everybody hits or strikes out, on the cheap summer baseball every Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16th. We usually play for about an hour and a half, but maybe two. It will be a short season, so get it in while you can. Our age limit is 15 down to around 11, although we occasionally get a 10 yr old who sneaks in claiming to be 13.

The admission fee is $1 per player per night. If you don't play, you don't pay. The concession stand will be open for drinks, candy and hopefully, soft serve ice cream. The only major rule is, don't eat so much ice cream you leave it on the field. No fights, No arguments, No insults (except on the joking side), No Drama, Just have fun, show some class, and some sportsmanship.

Everyone is invited as long as they don't cause trouble. Parents are encouraged to attend and chew on the umpires all they want, because there aren't any umpires (that won't stop them of course). The score doesn't matter, cause its just for one game braggin' rights. Just bring your glove and a wood bat,  and don't wear shorts unless you love raspberries.

As a side, we think it will make you better hitters by having to use a wood bat. These fancy high maintenance alloy woosy bats haven't made it to the big leagues yet, so give em up while you have a chance.

Obviously, I need some help with the field prep and floppin baseballs in a pitching machine, and if you want to volunteer to sit in an air conditioned concession stand that stays at a toasty 90 or better, let me know. I can use all the help I can get. If you don't believe that, you've never seen me umpire.
