Leadership Application

THERE WILL BE AN INFORMATIONAL meeting FOR ALL STUDENTS INTERESTED IN JOINING ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, at lunch in m-1

A hard copy of all applications must be turned in to the front office or leadership classroom (M-1) either before or by lunch on February 21st. Anyone interested in running for a class officer position or ASB position position MUST apply for the 2022-23 Leadership class. Contact Mr. Weber for more details.

Step One: Packet Requirements

There is an informational meeting for ALL applicants on February 11th at lunch in Room M-1. A hard copy of packets must be completed and turned in by February 22nd at the front office or leadership classroom for all applicants. This is a hard deadline and applications will not be accepted after February 21st. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and turn in their packet on time to be eligible for the Leadership program.

Step Two: Packet Evaluations

Packets are evaluated based on quality of responses, teacher evaluations, and packet completion. Interviews are NOT guaranteed. Interviews are granted based solely on the quality of the packet, the effort that is apparent, and the quality of responses to the questions. Though a minimum GPA of 2.0 is required, decisions are not made based on academic achievement. However, if students are struggling to maintain a 2.0 GPA or have attendance and/or behavioral issues, this will be a major factor in our decision. Candidates are chosen based on their display of Leadership qualities at AVHS and in the community, as well as their potential to be a benefit to the Leadership program with their skills. Current Leadership students are not necessarily at an advantage – if a student has not done an exceptional job, they may not be offered an interview, regardless of the fact that they are currently in the class. The Leadership program at AVHS is very competitive and due to limited space, only the most promising students who offer necessary skills and talents can be given a spot in the class.

Step Three: Interviews

Students will be notified via email if they will be offered the opportunity to interview. Interviews will be held in-person, after school in the leadership classroom (M-1) from February 28th until March 9th. Information regarding sign ups will be sent out via email once all applications are received. The interview panel will include, but is not limited to, Mr. Weber (the Leadership Advisor), and the ASB Officers. Interviews will be scheduled in 10 minute intervals. Second interviews are very rare and should not be expected. We cannot discuss your interview or packet until final decisions have been announced. The final class list will be sent out via email on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Step Four: Elections

All students interested in running for an elected position must have their candidacy approved by Mr. Weber and AVHS administration. All students, regardless of experience in the class, are eligible to run for class officer position. Only seniors with at least one year experience in the class are eligible to run for ASB. The four ASB winners (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) will immediately begin the ASB Officer training process. The remaining ASB Executive Council Members will be selected from the pool of students who ran for an ASB Officer position, but were not elected. In the event of an incomplete executive board (fewer than eight members), Juniors may be appointed at the discretion of Leadership teachers and administration. Students who did not earn a position as an ASB Officer or ASB Executive Council Member will have their first choice of a task for the upcoming school year.

Step Five: Decisions

This program is lucky to have so many people dedicated to Amador who wish to be in Leadership. Not all applicants can be accepted. If you are not accepted, please don’t be discouraged from applying next year. You are also encouraged to take up leadership positions in clubs and other campus organizations. Many of our current Leadership students were not accepted the first time around. Once decisions have been posted, we understand that you may have questions and we will be happy to address them individually, but keep in mind that all decisions are final.

NOTE: When filling out class selections for next year, do not select Student Leadership. Rather, indicate the class as an alternate. If you are elected as an ASB or class officer, or are accepted into the class, your counselor will change your schedule.
