THE SPITFIRE & HURRICANE MEMORIAL MUSEUM
The Memorial Museum is situated near the site of the disused control tower on the North-Western side of the airport.
To reach the Museum from TG Aviation take the path past the Airport Terminal Building until you reach the main road (B2050), then turn left and continue along the road until Manston Road. Turn right into Manston Road and the Museum can be found about 20m on the right hand side. The Museum is a leisurely 15 minute walk from the Airport.
The Memorial Museum houses two fine examples of the Spitfire and Hurricane
Supermarine Spitfire Mk XVI (LF) - Type 361 - Serial TB752 - Sqn Code KH-Z
TB752 is one of the few surviving Spitfires with a wartime record. She served briefly with 66 Squadron during the early part of 1945 but after a landing accident joined 403 Squadron (RCAF) and very quickly accounted for four German aircraft.
Hawker Hurricane IIC - Serial LF751 - (Displayed as BN230 of 43 Squadron) - Sqn Code FT-A
There are very few survivors of this famous fighter and we are especially proud to have a Hurricane on display. LF751 was built at Langley in 1944 and performed valuable service on bomber defence training.
The Memorial Museum Building houses an ever increasing number of memorabilia, both military and civil, mainly from the 1939-45 World War II period and which are well worth viewing. They include the prototype bouncing bomb which was recovered from nearby Reculver, the history of the 'Channel Dash' where in February 1942, Manston became the centre for the desperate air action to stop the dash up the Channel by the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen; the much travelled No. 222 (Natal) Squadron wartime scoreboard and related battle honours.
