Do we really know all the volunteer opportunities within our Auxiliary Unit which supports our mission? The following are just a few of some great programs with which you can get involved! Luncheon Program – Scheduler Pam Sweigert, 520-906-8346. We need cooks, food preppers, platers, grillers, cashiers, servers, and bussers. This is the Auxiliary’s main fundraiser for our charities and programs. Volunteers are always needed. Call Pam for more information on our shift times.
Taco Wednesdays – Contact Jan Melhorn, 916-521-8199 or email at janniecakes@sbcglobal.net. We need volunteers for food preparation, food preppers, platers, grillers, cashiers, servers, and bussers.
Arizona State Veterans Home – Chairman Nancy Morrow, 520-278-9257. Represent our Auxiliary on Steering Committee by attending a monthly meeting and reporting back to our membership regarding activities. Work in the Gift Shop at the Veterans Home, visit with residents there.
Veteran’s Affairs & Rehabilitation (VA&R) – Barbara Sutton, 520-798-2277. There are a number of opportunities, including: Volunteer at the Veterans’ Medical Center, help with Bingo games, collect clothing and toiletries for the homeless veterans, crochet, quilt or knit hats and lap blankets. Participate in the Bridging Ceremonies each month serving refreshments to veterans in the substance use disorders program. In December volunteer for the Christmas gift shop.
Girl’s State – Work with school advisors to identify girls who demonstrate leadership qualities so they may join a program that instills the basic ideals and principles of the American government.
Children and Youth – Chairman, Sally Cady, 402-690-7251 Bring projects into the local classrooms. If she needs assistance, she will let the membership know.
Americanism – Chairman OPEN. Promote patriotism and responsible citizenship in the home, Unit 131 and community.
Poppy Drive – Chairman Judy Kackman, 320-333-2600. The poppy is the official flower of the Auxiliary. They are in memory of those who gave their all so that justice may be supreme. In November we need volunteers to solicit donations and join/assist with our mailing (stuffing and labeling envelopes).
Bake Fest and Home Baking – Jan Melhorn, 916-521-8199. Several times a year we hold a bake fest or ask for baked goods to support a function at the Veterans Home, VA Hospital or Fisher House. The money is used to support many Veteran Organizations.
Membership – Jeannie McGaughey, 520-820-1566 Process new member applications and membership renewals. If she needs assistance, she will let the membership know.
Volunteer Hours – Carole Kissinger, 520-625-2204. When you volunteer and report your hours, they are counted as a unit and a report is sent to Congress. If she needs assistance, she will let the memb
