City of Tucson's Four Chaplain ceremony February 3, 2025
Nancy Morrow attended the City of Tucson's 76th Annual Four Chaplains ceremony, held Sunday, February 3rd at Kino Veterans Memorial Park. She was representing our Unit 131, along with 132, 59, and the district 2 Commander.
Four Chaplains Day is celebrated on February 3 every year in recognition of four Army chaplains who acted in the spirit of heroic sacrifice and humanitarianism onboard a sinking ship.
It was 1943 and the U.S.A.T. Dorchester was sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, packed to capacity. Tragedy struck when a German submarine fired a torpedo at the ship, sinking it and killing the hundreds who were onboard.
The chaplains being honored are Lt. Alexander Goode, a rabbi; Lt. George Fox, a Methodist minister; Lt. Clark Poling, a Dutch Reformed minister; and Lt. John Washington, a Roman Catholic priest.
