Autism Sinethemba

Early Intervention Centre

Autism Sinethemba is a non-profit organization, specifically geared toward educating and supporting young, pre-school aged learners with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

We opened our school in May 2008, and have had great pleasure at seeing our little ones thrive and develop in this individualized, Autism specific learning environment.

Our School

We have five classrooms and educate a maximum capacity of 50 children at the moment. Due to demand it will become necessary to open a class for older children who cannot be accommodated in our school because of age, we will need to register with Department of Education as an Independent School in order to do this.

Due to the unplanned events of COVID - 19 we have unfortunately related to measures of down scaling our staff members. Our classes have moved online for the time being, however most of the children at our center require a lot of 'hands on' care. We are very grateful to the parents, Department of Social Development and all our other donors and funders for their assistance with fees and funding to keep this unique school going.

Autism Sinethemba Early Intervention Centre is growing and GLOWING on a daily basis!!!!

About the Founders

Autism Sinethemba was founded by Antoinette Bruce-Alexander, Gary Robertson and other members of the Support Group (formed in 2003) in response to the desperate need in East London for Early Intervention, support for parents and information about Autism. They have worked tirelessly to gather together a board of directors, form a non-profit organization, and open a school specifically geared toward educating and supporting young children with Autism. The work hasn't ended there. Aside from holding down full time jobs and raising children of their own (Neurotypical and Autistic), they hold regular fundraisers to keep our school open and Antoinette actively assists in placing our children in schools once they've reached school-going age. People from all over the province turn to us for information, advice, and often, a shoulder to cry on.
