Some tips about goal setting …..
start by setting small and easy to reach goals
develop a habit of goal setting
identify someone who you look up to
who can serve as a role model - learn more about that person and their journey - what do you admire about them?
decorate your “goals” page on your ePortfolio site with articles, pictures, cartoons, quotes, and other items that inspire or interest you
write about each one of your goals - what makes them important to you?
create a collage and embed it on your goals page of your ePortfolio
identify things you’d like to learn more about - what things would you like to learn to do? -
is there a fear you’d like to overcome? - why? - what specific steps would you need to take? what would the timeline be?
use your calendar and the task list to help you get organized and stay on track with reaching your goals - check things off when you accomplish them
don’t forget to celebrate your successes!
categorize your goals - bronze, silver and gold - bronze are shorter term, easier to achieve, gold are longer term and more involved
make a list of words that help you get motivated
make another list of words that slow you down
let’s talk about the rough spots? what will you do when you hit a rough spot?
what are you willing to give up to move forward with your plan?
form a “Dream Team” - these are people you can share your goals with - people who will be there for you in the rough times to help you stay on track
Things to make sure that some of your goals address ….
are your goals SMART? - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-sensitive.
be specific: Don’t be vague. Exactly what do you want?
Measurable: Quantify your goal. How will you know if you’ve achieved it or not?
Attainable: Be honest with yourself about what you can reasonably accomplish at this point in your life – along with taking into consideration your current responsibilities.
Realistic: It’s got to be do-able, real and practical.
Time: Associate a timeframe with each goal. When should you complete the goal?
