Expectations

Mission Statement

To deliver a high quality martial arts experience within a fun, safe and discipline environment.

Goal

To create skilled martial artists who strive to be the best and demonstrate the 5 Tenants throughout their daily lives: courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.

Student Expectations

- Show up on time prepared with a clean uniform.

- Bring a water bottle.

- Stay focused during class.

- Instructors are referred to as Sir or Ma'm

- Bow on entering and leaving the dojang as well as instructors and higher ranking students.

- Don't wear sharp things such as rings, earrings, watches, etc.

- Please tie back shoulder length or longer hair.

- Clean hands, feet and short nails.

- Behave correctly at all times. This means being respectful and polite at all times.

Parents Expectations

- Spectators are expected to be silent during class.  Spectators are expected to be seated on the south wall of the gym or along the east/west wall south of the girls changeroom only if the south wall is fully occupied.  

- Cell phones silenced

- Please practice at home with your child by reviewing the techniques and skills we learn in class. There are videos of each pattern on the "patterns" page. 

- Encourage your child to remember and understand the 5 tenets. These are located on the same page as the patterns.

- Encourage your child with positive feedback before and after each class. 

- Help your child arrive in needed time for them to be ready on time for each class.

- Motivate your child and others to attend tournaments. Tournaments are a great place to demonstrate your skill with others at similar belt levels and age, also a great place to meet friends, promote club spirit, build confidence and enjoy yourself.

Facility Expectations

- The entrance & exit door for taekwondo students is through the main north doors.    For the beginner/first class there will be someone there to open the door no more than 10 minutes before class begins.  

- ABSOLUTELY no outdoor shoes in the gym, no exception. All shoes must be taken off at the gym entrance, parents and students included.

- No food or drinks in the gym except water.

- Change rooms are available in the gym.  Use at your own risk and do not leave any valuable behind.

- Our club operates out the the facility gym. The rest of the school is off limits for students, friends and family members unless discussed prior with head instructor.

- Address of Saint Thomas Aquinas Middle School is 3821 - 39st just west of St. Mary's Church.

Tieing your belt

1. The belt color depends on the level achieved.

2. The belt is wrapped twice around the waist before being tied into a reef knot.

3. The belt end in the right hand passes over top the left hand belt end.

4. The right hand belt end then passes under the left hand belt end, with the belt wrapped around the hips.

5. The belt end that passed under the belt in step 4 (now in the left hand) passes over the belt end in the right hand and the passes under this end to create a knot.

6. The end product is a reef knot.
