Rear Drum Brake 11" Upgrade
The rear drum brake backing plate on the Astro/Safari shares the same bolt pattern as the GM B-Body cars. As such it was discovered that aside from changing the parking brake cable routing, that the larger 11" drums from the wagon, police, and performance variants can be used in place of the stock 9 1/2" setup. The hardest part about this upgrade is finding the backing plates, as they are no longer available from the dealer and aren't a common aftermarket part. Best bet is hunt for them in the junkyards. Below is a list of the most recent B-Body cars that will most likely be found.
Buick Roadmaster (1991-1996)
Cadillac Brougham (1991 - 1992)
Cadillac Fleetwood (1993 - 1996)
Chevrolet Caprice Classic (1976 - 1996)
Chevrolet Impala SS (1994 - 1996)
7/8" or 1" wheel cylinders
Rear Disk Brake Upgrade
Just began researching this. Supposedly the 94-96 9C1 (police package) Caprices have disc brakes that will bolt up to non-disc Caprices if everything from the backing plate out is used. Therefore this stuff should bolt up to an Astro as well. Junkyard hunting and fitting will need to be done to confirm this.
