Spencer Chapman reports: It was a pleasure to see Shrewsbury's 1st pair from a decade or two ago back in harness again.  Hugh is a newcomer to Superleague though and couldn't quite show his pedigree through the first couple of rotations after being mugged by the captain in a battle to occupy the bottom slot in the team order. If you've ever meet Hugh, you'll know that the battle was purely figurative - he's quite a unit. It all came right for the team in the third rotation though, with Ed and Nick sprinting home in the top match, and Hugh breaking his maiden to win a tight final rubber with an impressive late charge. Spencer had one eye on the action in the other courts and was disappointed to see heavy favourites the Mewtants overturned, and the Thoroughbreds deprived of a semi-final berth. Stampede will be there however in what will be a tough assignment against HA1 Newbury.

Spencer Chapman reports: The Thoroughbreds welcomed back a couple of old stalwarts to the starting gate, and Chris and Ian proved there is life in the old nags yet to help the team romp to a resounding 6-0 win over the home team. Nick is a Superleague superhero and revelling in his promotion back up to number 1 in the team order, proved unstoppable all evening. The Thoroughbreds have done all they can to ensure progression to the semi-finals next week but now face an agonising 24 hour wait to see whether the Mewtants will field their strongest team against top of the table rivals HA1 Newbury.

Qualification from Group A into the knockout stages of Superleague XI is going to the wire! The Thoroughbreds put two lengths between themselves and Newbury last night, but the result still leaves them trailing by three in the overall standings, with one match to play. However, Newbury have yet to face the mighty Mewtants, and the Thoroughbreds have a very winnable match against group stragglers, the Westway Wolves. The stars could be aligning for another Superleague clash between the Thoroughbreds & Stampede! Alex Abrahams lived up to his top billing last night, putting in a thoroughbred display to win all of his three matches for the concession of just 12 points. Meanwhile In the other court, Robert was completing a Thorogood display, when just being edged out in a nail-bitter in the last action of the evening!

Our Easy Rider was Ben for conceding only 10 points all evening and sporting the most impressive headband on show.

Robert successfully recovered from forgetting to bring his gloves, finding a suitably magic pair at Westway: "I had to make a pact with a leprechaun type figure so I would win all my games tonight, but I reckon the price was worth paying."

The 2023 Superleague season got underway with a regulation win for the Aston House Stampede against the St.Olave's Storm, with Ed Taylor joining the ranks for their title defence in the absence this season of Riki Houlden. There will once again be two Aston House teams with the Thoroughbreds also back in action in an expanded ten team, two conference league this year. AH supremo will be dividing his forces between the two teams once again, but can he engineer a repeat of last season's all Aston House final?
