It has been a long time coming, but Assumption is one of the few parishes that still conduct Sunday School during the Divine Liturgy. This has now come to an end. Assumption, along with these other churches, were mandated to make changes so that children can be with their families during the Divine Liturgy. Here is how we have restructured Sunday School:

Assumption, along with these other churches, were mandated to make changes so that children can be with their families during the Divine Liturgy. Here is how we have restructured Sunday School:
Orthros begins at 9am.

Divine Liturgy begins around 10am (when Orthros is completed).

Father will give a short sermon for the Sunday School students after the reading of the Gospel.

During the Prayer Before Holy Communion, Sunday School teachers will line up for Communion. Students (as well as parents who may need to accompany their child(ren)) are to line up behind the teachers.

Teachers and student will exit down the south door and into the main lobby area, where students will line up with their respective class/teacher, then proceed to their classrooms.

Instruction will be taught for approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending on when Church lets out.

There will be a mini-coffee hour where parents/parishioners can partake of light refreshments (please be respectful of the classes still in session - Keep the noise down).

Once services are over and Sunday School classes are complete, the Coffee Hour crew will open up Coffee Hour so that families can sit together and partake of the community meal.

Due to many complaints, we will not be utilizing the online Registration this year. There will be a paper form available. Please fill out the paper form when you drop your child off. The form is quick and contains your child's name, grade, and email/phone for parent (in case the teacher needs to reach you regarding Sunday School). Use the bottom and/or back for any special note(s) you need to pass onto your teacher.

Please help us! If you drop your child off, but do not attend the service, please leave contact information on the Registration Form. Also, if your child is not Orthodox and therefore should not be participating in Communion, please relay that to your teacher in person or on the Registration Form. If there are ANY OTHER CONCERNS, please let your teacher know! In addition, your teacher may ask for additional information to aid in special class assignments/projects that they do. You or your teacher can note this on the Registration Form.

Sunday School Director

We are recruiting for a new Sunday School Director (or co-directors). The position assists the Parish Priest in overseeing the Sunday School. The Sunday School is fairly self-sustaining, so the Director becomes an advocate for the Sunday School. The director provides updates to the parish through the Weekly Bulletin and/or Monthly Newsletters, coordinates the Lazarus Saturday Pancake Breakfast, and helps teachers with their needs, such as recruiting teachers and substitutes, obtaining resources, coordinate teacher meetings, Christmas and end of year gifts for students (and teachers), and working with the various groups in the parish in order to meet the goals of the Sunday School. This is not an all inclusive list of duties as things do come up over the course of the year.

We are in need of several teachers in the Pre-K, K/1, & 6-8th grades. Teachers utilize the time between communion and end of services to teach students about our Orthodox faith. The school year runs from early September to early May with breaks in between for Christmas, Pascha, and other special services/activities (and weather). Further details about the structure can be found at the top of this page.

We are looking for someone to direct the Christmas Pageant this year. There are many different pageants to chose from or you can be creative; however, understand that attendance is unreliable and practice is limited. Unfortunately, if we have no volunteer for taking this on, then we will not have a pageant.
