* Assessments take place at my premises on Auckland's North Shore or at the student's school/university.
* They consist of two, 2-hour sessions using the Woodcock Johnson IV battery of tests, which assess:
cognitive ability - general IQ as well as cognitive strengths and weaknesses (including reasoning, processing speed, memory, auditory processing, visual processing)
oral language, including listening comprehension
achievement in reading, writing and maths (if this is an issue)
(NB. Online assessments require 3 appointments of about 1.5 hours each)
(visit the SPELD website for details about the assessment: https://www.speld.org.nz/our-services/diagnostic-assessment)
* A diagnosis of a Specific Learning Disorder (such as dyslexia) may be made.
* A detailed report will be available (usually within 10 days), including recommendations for improving and catering for identified learning problems.
* This includes recommending Special Assessment Conditions (SAC) for NCEA, if secondary students meet criteria for this, and includes a SAC Declaration form for the school's use in making an application to NZQA - see SAC page for further information.
* A follow-up Zoom meeting to discuss the findings.
