Freudenstein Young Investigator Award Information

Purpose

This award has been established to encourage young investigators in accomplishing high-quality research. The award shall be given to an individual that makes a significant original contribution to the theory or practice of mechanisms and/or robotics and has the potential to enhance the public good.

Evaluation

One award will be given each year annually with an ASME Certificate and a cash value of one thousand dollars ($1,000).

Qualifications of Awardees

  • Must have a significant original contribution to the theory or practice of mechanisms and the potential to enhance the public good.

  • A corporate member of the ASME.

  • Hold the rank of an Assistant Professor or an equivalent entry-level industrial position.

  • Have published in M&R conferences or serviced the M&R community within the last 3 years.

Selection Process

  • Nominations for the Young Investigator Award are to be submitted to the Chair of the MR Honors and Awards Subcommittee for consideration by Apr 1st of the corresponding year.

  • Nominations will be accepted from any ASME member and remain valid for 3 years or until the nominee is promoted to Associate Professor or an equivalent industrial position.

  • The nominator is responsible for submitting the entire nomination package. This includes a nomination letter on the specific ways in which the nominee meets the requirements for the honor, and a comprehensive CV (Research, Education, Service) of the nominee to support the claim.

  • The Awards Committee will select the awardee from the nominations submitted, based on the information contained in the nomination package. The Awards Committee shall consist of five members (Chair of the M&R Honors and Awards Subcommittee, who shall also chair this committee; the Chair of the M&R Committee; and 3 other members who are recognized leaders in the field to judge the nominee.
