PLOT AND RENT DETAILS
The Association has around 90 full plots within an average size range of 270-420 square yards (226-351 sq.m.). Today most of these plots are split into half plots, this is the maximum unit the Association now lets to new plotholders and is more than adequate for the vast majority of people. Smaller starter plots are also available. The Association expects at least two thirds of any site to be actively cultivated for crops and the remainder kept clean and tidy, these and other conditions will be found in the Association’s lease which is signed on taking on a tenancy. Discounts are available for people on benefits, including pension credit, and to students. If you have had an Association plot for 25 years you will also get a discount!! LETTINGS-How to Apply The Association keeps a waiting list of people wanting a plot and these are dealt with in order of request received. We currently have a waiting list but are actively working to match potential plotholders with their new plot. We are gradually bringing overgrown plots back into use and offering them to those who have been on the waiting list the longest. If you would like to become a plotholder then please register your interest using the online registration form here.
Trees on allotment plots.
ADA recognises the contribution our allotments and the bordering areas make to the bio diversity of the local area. Over the past 15 years over 600 trees have been planted on the site either as hedgerows or standard trees.
However trees planted on plots can be a significant problem in terms of creating too much shade and nutrient depletion. Trees should not be planted on plots except for the purpose of fruit production. Those trees should be on dwarfing rooting stock and be regularly pruned so that they do not exceed a height of 2 metres.
We do recognise that a number of plots have inherited trees that are either not fruit bearing or oversize. The committee is willing to support the trimming or removal of these trees on a case by case basis. Please contact the Plot Officer via the usual channels if you require support with trees on or bordering your plot.
