JUNE 2002, page 5
The new homebound delivery program will reach out to residents of Newport Beach who cannot come to the library. Librarians will make selections for homebound customers based on their preferences and interests.
A variety of library materials can be brought to the home including books, books-on-cassette, books-on-cd, and videos. Trained volunteers will deliver and pick up for return library materials on a monthly schedule. The volunteer serves as a liaison between the library and the customer at home.
All Newport Beach residents are eligible for the program whether they are homebound due to a temporary situation or a long-term difficulty. It is not necessary to possess a current library card, just a desire to part of the library community.
All licensed drivers with valid auto insurance who have a desire to serve homebound residents are welcomed. For more information about how this service can be made available to the homebound or to volunteer, please contact Charlene M. Ashendorf, Homebound Coordinator at the Newport Beach Public Library at 949-717-3824.
