Maintenance Costs

Maintenance Costs

The maintenance expense of an older wood boat is probably less than one would think.  If any boat is kept in good condition with regular maintenance, it can be maintained for much less than the expense of refurbishing.

Often classic wood boats are restored from a very poor condition with parts missing and rotted wood needing replacement.  The cost of restoration is far more than the cost of maintaining a vessel.

The annual maintenance of a wood boat that is kept indoors and up to date is not any different than that of a fiberglass boat of similar size.  Bright-Work and Paint will last for several years.

Our annual maintenance expense for varnishing and painting, (that was 100% contracted) has averaged approximately $4,000 per year.  Of course engine replacement or other major maintenance and upgrade items are no different than any other vessel and are not included this annual maintenance expense.
