City to Celebrate Fire Station No. 7 Re-Opening
Ribbon Cutting, Public Tours, Hot Dogs Highlight Sept. 29 Event
The City of Arlington will celebrate the grand re-opening of Fire Station No. 7 at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
As part of the ribbon cutting, Arlington City Council members will board a fire truck, which will break through fire line tape to symbolize the re-opening and completion of approximately $818,000 in improvements. Fire Station No. 7 is located at 4000 Little Road in southwest Arlington. The neighborhood celebration includes public tours, free hot dogs, balloons, and fire safety and neighborhood information.
A great celebration is being planned, said Assistant Fire Chief Brian Riley. We invite the Arlington community to come out on Saturday and see all that is new at their neighborhood fire station.
Whats New at Fire Station No. 7?
Fire Station No. 7 was originally built in 1972. Construction started in January 2007 to upgrade and remodel the station.
The station has eight individual sleeping quarters with three restroom facilities for the three seven-member crews who moved back into the station on Aug. 31.
During the renovation, the station was expanded to 10,356 square feet. It houses one engine, one aerial ladder and is home to Arlingtons Dive and Swift Water Rescue Team and the backup 9-1-1 Communications Center. The station has a new fitness room and upgraded equipment.
The neighborhood fire station is much more than fire and emergency medical response, said District 4 City Council member Kathryn Wilemon. It is a neighborhood asset and a Safe Place, providing emergency shelter for youth in crisis.
Arlington Fire Chief Robin Paulsgrove said the improvements will provide better, more efficient services for the residents and businesses of the area. Arlington has 16 fire stations.
Renovations at Fire Stations No. 6 and No. 8 were completed last year. Whats next: Renovations at Fire Stations No. 3 and No. 4. All of these improvements have been funded by the 2003 Capital Improvement Program.
