I am passionate about science outreach and I am interested in facilitating connections between scientists and communities.
Science in Society
I am interested in how scientists can contribute to society through education, outreach, open-science, and art.
Between 2015 and 2020, I have coordinated 5 Pint of Science outreach events in Birmingham (UK) and New York City (US), where scientists shared research findings with people in local pubs and cafes. I am currently the President of BraiNY, the Greater NYC Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience.
I enjoy talking about neuroscience and language to K-12 students and I value the importance of mentorship. Since 2018, I have organized Women in Science events such as Girls do Science, and volunteered in education and outreach programs such as NYAS 1000 girls, 1000 futures, ScAAN, NYU Virtual Research Internship, College & Career Lab, and Brain Awareness Week.
Science outreach is the connective tissue between science and society. Check out my blog posts to find out more about the importance of science outreach and the symbiotic relationship between science and art. And visit my infographics portfolio!
Science and Art
I am interested in the intersection between science and art/film and in creating a space where they can cohabitate.
Since 2021, I have been involved with Imagine Science, as participant, as jury member and more recently as director of the Symbiosis Initiative, which pairs scientists and filmmakers to create short films in one week.
In 2021, together with the artist and filmmaker Yashaswini Raghunandan, I created the science-inspired short film I Invite You, a sensory journey that illustrates the challenges that the brain faces in our everyday conversations. Yashaswini and I are currently working on our new project The Hidden Story, supported by the STEAMPlant initiative.
In 2023, I joined the SAi Resident Collective as a Resident Scholar to study formats, goals, advantages, and barriers in the partnership between scientists and artists within the SciArt context of New York City.
