We are Associate Members of the B.A.T.D. - British Association of Teachers of Dancing and started our dance classes in September 2009. We are qualified as Floor Leaders (Sequence Ballroom and Latin) and Associate Members in Ballroom. We also attend regular lectures on a range of dance styles.
The regular evening classes are mainly teaching sessions for Ballroom/Latin - Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Rumba, Foxtrot and Cha Cha Cha as well as well established and some of the more modern Sequence dances with the occasional Jive, Samba, Salsa, Mambo and Bossa Nova.
In all classes basic steps are taught usually as part of a short routine. This allows beginners to be able to dance more confidently at weddings, cruise holidays or evenings out with friends. As ability increases the number of steps increases and the length of the routine can develop.
A 'closed' WhatsApp group is used by the class members to film and post dances to aid practice at home.
A variable speed sound system is occasionally used which allows new dances to be taught initially at a slower tempo. Head microphones are also used to enhance the experience.
Current songs from the charts are used as well as established dance music to give a range of moods to dance to. We are more than willing to take on suggestions for your favourite songs which could be incorporated into the programme.
We like to foster a friendly and interactive environment which encourages dancers to ask for clarification on any part of the dance.
We have held Saturday Dances at Dalbeattie Town Hall and the Hall in the Haugh of Urr often with a Charity theme. We hope to continue these in the near future.
Charities who have benefitted have been Mental Health, Dumfries Anti Natal, Blood Bikes, Multiple Scerosis, Breast Cancer and Macmillan Cancer. Almost £1500 has been raised from raffles etc to date.
