The Ardmore Public Library began as a bookmobile drop at the Lewter Hardware Store in 1957 and on April 23, 1977, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Tennessee’s City Hall where over 1,000 books were housed. By the end of 1977, the library was able to hire its first librarian. Later in 2004, the library became fully automated and in 2008, the Ardmore Public Library was able to move into its own 4,000 square foot building. In 2012, it began opening 49 hours a week and had 576 square feet added to its building as a Historical Room where local artifacts, photos of Ardmore, genealogy books, census materials, other research material, and records on families, businesses, and churches are currently located. In 2014, the library had three full-time employees and one part-time. It serves a population of over 3,530 with a collection of 49,502 items. In 2017, the library added a 40x40 meeting/children's room onto the west side of the library for a complete 6,225 foot library.
