Terms of Purchase

(This is a condensed version of our actual contract, posted here for informational purposes only. Only a full version of our contract, signed by all parties involved, constitutes a legal agreement.)

Arctic Texan Labradors guarantees:

* that all medical/health information provided to you will be true and correct at the time you receive your puppy. Your puppy will have been examined by a licensed veterinarian and any known health problems disclosed prior to the signing of any contract. Your puppy will have been administered vaccinations and cleared for parasites. Your puppy will also be microchipped.

* General Health Guarantee: for a period of 7 days, we guarantee the general health and condition of your new puppy.  You must have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 7 days of receipt. Inform the veterinarian to look for congenital defects as well as examine the overall health of the puppy. Arctic Texan Labradors must be notified of the veterinarian's findings within 10 days of receipt of the puppy. Failure to notify us will render this General Health Guarantee, as well as the 26-month Hip/Elbow guarantee, null and void. This General Health Guarantee automatically becomes null and void after 7 days; after this time, Arctic Texan Labradors cannot control environmental factors that can cause illness/injury.

* Hip/Elbow Guarantee: for a period of 26 months from this puppy's date of birth, we guarantee against hip/elbow dysplasia. To be covered by this guarantee:

    1. The puppy must be owned by its original owner.

    2. You must have returned the initial exam findings from a licensed veterinarian within the first 10 days of receipt.

    3. The puppy/dog has not been bred.

    4. The puppy/dog is not underweight, overweight, over-exercised, nor has done an excessive amount of jumping; this can cause bone spurs.

    5. The puppy has been consistently fed a high-quality, meat-based protein, balanced diet.

    6. The puppy/dog is within the 26 month age window.

    7. Hip/elbow evaluation must come from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) or Penn Hip and show that the joint(s) is/are moderately to severely dysplastic. Costs for evaluation/diagnosis are the responsibility of the owner.

* Genetic Guarantee: Our breeding dogs are tested for EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse), CNM, DM, PRA/prcd (Progressive Retinal Atrophy/Progressive Rod/Cone Degeneration), HNPK, SD, and RD/OD1, and paired carefully to avoid passing on these genetic time bombs. We guarantee for the life of the dog that each puppy will be free of these diseases.

* In the unlikely event a major health problem is found at the initial exam, or if your puppy/dog is later found to be moderately to severely dysplastic, contact us immediately. Once the diagnosis is firmly established (Arctic Texan Labradors reserves the right to obtain a 2nd opinion at our own expense, if deemed necessary), in the event of a serious health problem, you may return your puppy to us in exchange for another puppy (from a current litter if available, or from a future litter otherwise), or return the puppy for a full refund. You may also choose to keep the puppy and be refunded half the purchase price.

You agree:

* to have your puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 7 business days of receipt and inform Arctic Texan Labs of the results of the exam within 10 days of receipt of the puppy.

* that this puppy is being adopted as a pet/companion, eligible for Limited AKC registration. You agree to spay/neuter this puppy in the agreed timeframe, and to provide us with proof of alteration. Failure to alter, or any breeding of this dog shall constitute breach of contract and render your purchase void, requiring you to pay a $10,000 fine per occurrence and spay/neuter the dog immediately.

* to return the dog to us if, for any reason, you cannot keep it. We require the return of any puppy we breed, for the life of the dog. We never want to see one of our pups surrendered to a kill shelter, or passed from home to home.  A contracted rehoming is the best way we can ensure this.

* to love, nourish, nurture, and train your puppy with positive reinforcement/reward-based methods. The best of temperaments can be negated by a lack of training, or pain-based, corrective training methods. You will quickly find that your puppy thrives on learning how to please you, and that is the basis for training up a wonderful dog. :)
