Congress Theme: BUILDINGS FIT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change is transforming the approach to building design and construction and will lead to the need to adapt buildings to the climate in which they are located. In the face of rising temperatures, intensifying extreme weather events, and growing concerns about sustainability, it is imperative that architecture and construction adapt to these challenges. Sustainable design not only seeks to reduce the carbon footprint but must also provide the necessary flexibility to adapt to changes that may occur in the climate. Buildings must be designed to minimize energy consumption. Based on passive design strategies, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems must be efficient and integrate renewable energy sources. In addition, these strategies must be complemented by a choice of sustainable and recyclable materials without forgetting the need to provide comfortable and wellbeing. Climate change demands a comprehensive reconfiguration of building design and construction. Adopting sustainable and resilient practices not only protects the environment, but also ensures the safety and well-being of future generations.
