The topic
Based on a Marvel comics character, the recent Moon Knight television miniseries presents a mystery that involves ancient Egyptian deities.
Khonsu, the moon god, and Osiris, god of the underworld, are well known.
But how about the crocodile-headed Ammit and the hippopotamus-shaped Taweret?
Dr. Stuart Tyson Smith will tell us about these goddesses from antiquity and their modern, starring roles on screen.
This event will last about an hour.

The speaker
Dr. Stuart Tyson Smith is a professor of anthropology and director of the Institute for Social, Behavioral, and Economic Research at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research centers on the civilizations of ancient Egypt and Nubia.
He has participated in and led archaeological expeditions to Egypt, and since 1997 to Sudanese Nubia, where he co-directs the UCSB-Purdue University Tombos expedition to the third cataract of the Nile.
