From the GI Joe: A Real American Hero, comic books, cartoon series, movies and action figure toy line, the Arashikage Clan is a fictional group of Ninjas in the Marvel / G.I. jOE universe. It is central to the back-story of several prominent characters, including Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.
Arashikage = (Arashi = "Storm" and kage = "shadow" in Japanese).
For thousands of years, the Arashikage ninja clan has wielded its swords – and power – in the shadows of history. Warriors, mystics, guardians; they are all of these and much more:
- As warriors, they commit themselves to a cause and defend it to their last breath.
- As mystics, they expand the boundaries of their minds, bodies and spirits to achieve new levels of understanding, skill and enlightenment.
- As guardians, they protect those who are threatened by the forces of evil.
Arashikage Ninja Training
In the Marvel / G.I. jOE universe, Arashikage students are brought into the clan when they are very young.
They dedicate themselves to years of rigorous training to develop their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual skills.
You will never see Arashikage ninjas unless they choose to be seen.
Invisibility and silent movement are two of the arcane skills they have mastered.
They are experts with all the weapons ninjas command: swords, daggers and throwing stars.
The katana is their premier weapon; they must train until they and their sword are one, and the sword has become an extension of their arm, moving with instinctive fluidity and grace.
