We tried the Aquaponics System at first the seeds did not sprout as quick and as strong as we had hoped it would. Then we tried different seeds and some of them did sprout and some did not. Then we got the grow light but put it up high. Then after that we put the light closer to the plants then they started to grow as we wanted to. That experience helped us with the second structure of the aquaponics system. The first day we started this project with each task on the PBL resource website. Three days before the local science fair we were told to make a poster board.
So then we rushed through to get the poster board done. So then in the preliminary challenge we got first place. Then we went to the KLBK news station and presented our science projects to the news and all of Lubbock who watched that channel. When I first was asked to be in this project I was fascinated and enjoyed to be in it. I loved the entire process of this project. The planning of the project, the research, the construction of both structures, and most importantly the presentation of the entire project. So I was responsible for this essay, the SS connection, and the entire website besides one page. The making of this narrative essay was difficult but it was worth it though because of all the fun I had with my group on this project helping me every step of the way, and I am appreciative of that.
The two things that really made the plants grow were: the different seeds and the grow light being closer to the plants. These failures were needed to perfect our system, but still we’re tweaking our structure and our website also I am making the ELA component, and the SS connection to the website that me and a partner did for this project. This project was not easy but with the help of my teachers it made this project possible. The problems and obstacles that we faced made our project stronger. The first thing we did before building and making our aquaponics system we did background research on the aquaponics system. It took us some time but we pulled through and made it possible. Then we made our miniature aquaponics system. Then we planted the seeds, then they did not all sprout so we changed the seeds, then we got the grow light, but because of the height of the grow light they did not grow as fast, then we put the grow light closer to the plants then they started to grow at a wondrous rate.
At first I was skeptical about it and interested at the same time. Then when I first saw it I was more interested and amazed than skeptical about the whole project. We had some road bumps but all in all I had and still am having fun with it. I actually fell in love with the project the first time I saw it. The whole process of this project was a blast for me. Then we collected the necessary data for the project against the traditional method for farming. We found out that the aquaponics system grew three times faster than traditional farming. We found that out by measuring the height and growth of the plants. Our future connection is to put this system on mars because the astronauts are using freeze dry foods and food from silver tubes and so this system will give the astronauts fresh produce and also it is all indoors and goes year round and you do not need to take out or add any water because it is recycled through the whole system.
So basically this is a symbiotic relationship between the fish in the tank and the plant growth. This is a cycle to where the fish produce waste then that waste goes to the bio filter which filters all the bad stuff out and turns it into fertilizer for the plants and then the clean water is reverted back to the fish tank. The types of plants that we are growing in the big aquaponics system are lettuce and radishes. The types of plants that are growing in the miniature system are lettuce and radishes.
Now I end this narrative essay by saying this is how I got involved in this project and how the process of this whole project. Also I would like to say thank you to all of my teachers who supported me in this project with my partners, and I could not have done this project alone without my friends helping me and my partners in this project again I say thank you. Also I would like to say that this narrative was also about the obstacles and how it made the project better.
