Welcome to the research group of Associate Prof. Dr. Suriati Sufian. I am a lecturer affiliated with Department of Chemical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Malaysia. In brief, my research area focuses on the area of advanced renewable energy through the approach of materials and engineering design. I am interested in development of carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphitic nanofiber (GNF) (also known as carbon nanofiber or CNF) for hydrogen storage applications. Then, I extended my CNT and CNF applications in others like catalyst support (for hydrogen production), wastewater treatment (dye removal and heavy metal removal), etc. and also nano metal oxides application in photocatalysts. Apart from that, a strong interest in advanced materials has lead me to explore other materials such as mixed oxides, geopolymers, and graphene. My aims are to explore and answer fundamental questions involved in those areas and align with the industrial demand. We have a wide range of research and industrial collaboration across the globe.

December 2019: 4 of our postgraduate members which are Zulfiqar, Annas, Ariffin and Fakhrul successfully presented their research work at 28th Scientific Conference of Microscopy Society Malaysia (28th SCMSM 2019) . Additionally, Zulfiqar and Fakhrul brings back 4 awards from the conference which are Best Poster Presentation, SCMSM Travel Grant Award, Best Oral Presenter and Best TEM Micrograph Image Award (2nd Place). October 2019: Dr. Suriati Sufian was invited as a Keynote Speaker at Conference on Theoretical Physics and Nonlinear Phenomena (CTPNP'19) organized by Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia.

August 2019: Congratulations to Prof Aziz Raman from UM for securing the recent FRGS grant entitled "Investigating the Mechanism of Carbon Dioxide Capture by Metal oxides Impregnated Activated Carbon Derived from Waste Material". Dr Suriati is part of the team members for this grant.

March 2019: Our research group has been awarded a Yayasan UTP Fundamental Research Grant on "Facile Development of Low Cost High Porosity Hybrid Geopolymer/Alginate Spheres for Batik Wastewater Treatment".

December 2018: Congratulations to Fakhrul! He receiving 3 awards during UTP PG engagement & award ceremony which are High Achiever Award (GOT), High Cumulative Impact Factor (MSc category) and Outstanding Club & Society Activity Award. Kudoss to him once again!

November 2018: This year UTP convocation 2018, the Overall Best Master Student Award was secured by our research group member (Fakhrul). Congratulations for securing this prestigious award! In addition, our FYP student; Asem Mahmood secured silver medal for the Best Final Year Project Thesis Award. Congratulations to all graduates!.

October 2018: Together with other ChE colleagues, we secured silver medal for our Integrated Chem-E-Car Project Based Learning in 5th Innovative Practice in Higher Education Exhibition (I-PHEX) in conjunction with ICSTEM organised by Society of Engineering Education Malaysia and Center of Engineering Education.

August 2018: Congratulations to Fakhrul for securing 3rd place in Merck Young Scientist Award 2018. He won RM1,500 cash and RM3,500 worth of Merck Reagents. Well done!!! .

August 2018: Our research group has been awarded a Murata Science Foundation Grant on "Solar-Driven Water Purification Technology (SWAPT) for Generation of Clean Energy and Water in Rural Area".

July 2018: Our research group has been awarded a Yayasan UTP Fundamental Research Grant on " Low cost transformation of the anthropogenic greenhouse carbon dioxide gases into valuable carbon nanotubes: A comparative study between chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and solar electrolysis (SE).

July 2018: Congratulations to Fakhrul for receiving Winner of Chemical Engineering Postgraduate Award 2018 (Master) in Chemical Engineering Dean List Award Ceremony.

June 2018: Our Department has been awarded as the Outstanding Department for 4 consecutive years (2014-2018) in UTP Quality Day 2018. Congratulations to all of the staff.

June 2018: Honored to be awarded as Innovative Educator Award in UTP Quality Day 2018 together with Dr. Syafiq and Dr. Shafirah thru our Chem-E-Car Project.

April 2018: Our research group have been awarded a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) grant on "Enhancing Chemical Engineering Fundamentals Through Integrated Projects of Chem-E Car".

April 2018: Three of our FYP students participating in 4th International Biotechnology Competition and Exhibition (IBCEx '18) in UTM, Johor. They presenting their work on photocatalyst in treating synthetic and real industrial wastewater.

March 2018: Congratulations to Fakhrul for finishing his Master in Chemical Engineering with Graduate On Time (GOT).

January 2018: Together with Dr Shafiq and Dr Shafirah, we managed to secure Gold Medal in K-Novasi (Pertandingan Inovasi Pengajaran & Pembelajaran) Exhibition organized by UKM, Malaysia with a motto of "Education4.0: Future of Proof Graduates".

December 2017: Congratulations to all !! We managed to secure 2 awards in Teaching & Learning Festival 2017 which are Gold Medal and 1st runner-up in collaborative teaching award category.

November 2017: Our own integrated project, named as Chem-E car challenge secure a 1st runner-up in Anugerah Pemikiran dan Reka Bentuk Semula Pendidikan Tinggi 2017, Kuala Lumpur

October 2017: Our SWAPT project has been selected as one of the UTP representatives for PECIPTA 2017 Competition in Kuala Terengganu under Renewable and Environmental energy category.

September 2017: Congratulations to fakhrul for receiving 65k yen travelling grant award and attended 6th International Green Energy Seminar in Yamanashi Japan.

August 2017: Congratulations to our Engineering Team Project (ETP) students for winning the Bronze medal in 39th Science Engineering Design Exhibition (SEDEX), UTP, Perak.
