Adams Point Beach is a non-profit organization managed by volunteers. We need your help to keep our beach beautiful and financially viable for generations to come!

Ways to Volunteer:

Please consider serving on one of the following committees. If you have a specialty or an infinity for any of the following, we’d love to have you as part of our larger team!

• Fundraising

• Communications: social media, marketing, mailings, website

• Social Activities

• Beach Operations: opening, closing, maintenance

• Membership Outreach - Recommend your Canaan and New Lebanon friends to join the beach!

APBA is a volunteer organization, therefore, we are always in need of new Board members. Take your turn and help out! We'd love to have new blood on the Board!

WHAT DOES THE BOARD DO?

Here's the basic calendar the Board uses to stay on track:

Board responsibilities for calendar year

Feb/March - interview and hire lifeguards with Canaan Rec Committee. - Human Resources

March - Contact Metzwood Insurance to verify insurances are in place. - Treasurer

March - Update APBA membership renewal applications - Membership

April, 1st week - Email/mail renewal applications for APBA membership - Membership

April - Submit application to Columbia Board of Health (CCBH). - President

April/May/June - Receipt of membership applications and checks for membership. Drop off deposits with CPA - Membership

May, within 15 days of beach opening - Conduct water test & drive samples to Bender Labs.

May, 1st week - Follow up email to membership for APBA renewal applications - Membership

May, 1st week - Order Beach Sand and coordinate with Canaan Road Supervisor to spread the sand.

May – weekend before Memorial Day - Open beach, general clean up, check for hazards, especially trees, put out raft, ropes, depth markers, and weed mats. - Beach Operations

May, mid - CCBH permit to operate. Onsite inspection, provide copies of the lifeguard certifications, water test results, annual fee payment, and board contact information. - President

May, Mid - Request delivery of Port-o-lets with locks - Beach operations

May, Mid - Call Consolidated to turn on telephone. Treasurer

May - Renew insurances - Treasurer

May, June, July, August, & September Submit monthly operational reports to CCBH - President

May -Sept - Manage lifeguard staff - Human Resources

August - Annual Meeting 3rd Saturday in August. Election of Board: Total of 7 Directors.

August - Plan ice cream social at the beach. - Events and Fundraising Committee

September - Closing beach. - Beach Operations
