Dear Dr. Ma:

Re: Characterization of Arsenic-Resistant Bacteria from the Rhizosphere of Arsenic Hyperaccumulator Pteris vittata L.

This work represents a combination of two separate manuscripts and the authors are to be commended for a good effort in this regard. The scope and findings are clearly presented and the discussion makes valuable comments about the link between osmotic stress and arsenic resistance. See more comments below.

When you have completed the revisions, please log onto the OSPREY website and submit the following (link, username and password are below):

- a detailed letter indicating by line and page number, the changes you have made and answering any queries raised by the reviewers,

- the revised manuscript text with line numbers,

- the revised manuscript showing where the marked changes have occurred in the revised manuscript,

- individual figure files,

- ensure text files are in word.doc and separate figure files are in acceptable formats listed on our website, as well as

- Copyright Transfer Forms signed by all of the authors downloaded from our website at http://pubs.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/cgi-bin/rp/rp2_auth_e?cjm either sent via post or faxed to (306) 966-6949.

Please be advised that the Canadian Journal of Microbiology usually allows 1.5 months for revision of manuscripts after reviewing. Therefore we should receive a revised manuscript from you by January 7, 2010.

All authors must sign a copyright transfer form which assigns all rights to the published manuscript to the NRC. Copyright transfer forms are available in the first issue of the volume, or on the web site of the Journal (http://pubs.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/cgi-bin/rp/rp2_auth_e?cjm). When authors are informed that their manuscript has been accepted pending minor or major revision, they will also be given instructions as to how to complete and return the copyright transfer form. These forms must be returned when the revised manuscript is resubmitted. Failure to return the copyright form at that time will result in unnecessary delays in the publication process and may require that the manuscript be withdrawn.

The revised manuscript will be examined by the Editors. Thank you for submitting your manuscript to the Canadian Journal of Microbiology. We look forward to receiving a revision from you.

Please note that if you are considering adding or removing any of the authors from the authors list, it is imperative that it be done at this stage. You must submit a letter indicating the manuscript information (title, number), the name of the authors to be added or removed, the reasoning behind the change and this letter must be signed by all of the authors that appear on the initial submission.

Sincerely,

Drs. J.J. Germida and H.G. Deneer

Editors
