Data is essential to my research, and I strive to make as much of it publicly available as possible.
Consumption:
I do research on how household consumption links workers across sectors together.
Correspondance table: linking 5-digit industry code to coicop consumer categories.
Labor Markets:
Most of my research uses some definition of a labor market. I usually combine municipalities with a wider region that can capture where people work and live. This is a useful data file that coverts new municipality numbers to a codes that are consistent over the period 1967 to 2020, and also needed to link it to the commuting zone regions.
The link to commuting zones is available here.
I have manually created a consistent occupation that crosswalks between the old classification "Styrk98" and the new "Styrk08" (both adapted from European standard ISCO). The crosswalk contained many to many, with some occupations ceasing to exist, and some new that did not appear in the old version. To use this consistent classification, that I call "DOT", go from the Old and from the New code.
Check out this occupation classifier: https://github.com/christianvedels/OccCANINE
Tax Simulator:
I have created a tax simulator for Norway calculating the tax liability reasonably well from 1967 to 2010, including parental benefits. Download the packages here.
Access to Norwegian Administrative Data:
The data employed in the analysis are drawn from Norwegian administrative registers. Researchers can gain access to the data by submitting a written application to the data owners. Applications must be certified by The Norwegian Data Inspectorate in order to ensure that data are processed in a manner that protects the personal integrity of individuals surveyed. Conditional on this approval, Statistics Norway will then determine which data one may obtain in accordance with the research plan. Inquiries about access to data from Statistics Norway should be addressed to: mikrodata@ssb.no. More information is available at https://www.ssb.no/en/omssb/tjenester-og-verktoy/data-til-forskning
Replication packages:
Most of my publications have a detailed replication package on the DOI site.
I will add code for "Family Welfare Cultures" and "Internal Labor Markets: A Worker Flow Approach" here soon.
