About Me

Academic Journey

I love and work in all aspects of condensed matter theory. Since August 2012, IIT Kanpur has been my home as well as my "karma-bhoomi". I have come to love and appreciate my role here as a teacher, a mentor and a researcher. I think in terms of constant learning, impact, growth and excellence in everything that I do. Over time, I have also come to love and admire IIT Kanpur with all its shortcomings.

I was a Marie Curie postdoctoral researcher, with Prof. Rosario Fazio and Dr. Marco Polini, at the QTI group at Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa (Italy). We investigated a European Union (FP7) project titled 'SemiSpinNet'. A major part of our work involved studying 'quantum many-body effects in two dimensional electron gases in the presence of strong spin-orbit coupling '.

I received my Ph.D degree (2005-2009) from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore (India), working in CHEP with Prof. Diptiman Sen on 'Transport properties of quasi-one-dimensional quantum systems '. Most of the work was focussed on interacting one-dimensional quantum wires (Luttinger Liquids), quantum Hall edge channels, and problems related to quantum charge pumping. My thesis was awarded the Kumari L. A. Meera Memorial Medal (theoretical physics) for the best Ph.D thesis in Physics and Centre for High Energy Physics combined, Indian Institute of Science - Bangalore (India), for the period of 2009-2011.

I received my Masters degree (2002-2005) in physical sciences from Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore (India). My M.S. project done in collaboration with Prof. Diptiman Sen and was titled 'Effects of interaction and a static impurity on the conductance of a one dimensional quantum wire' .

My undergraduate studies (1999-2002) were done at Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. I was awarded the N. S. Khare award for academic excellence in B.Sc. (Hons.) - Physics, by Kirori Mal College, Delhi University (India).

I was born in Chirkunda - Dhanbad (India) in 1980 and my schooling was done at the De Nobili School (Mugma branch) till 1998.

Education

— Bachelor of Science - Physics Honors (1999 - 2002): Kirori Mal College, Delhi University, Delhi.

— M.S. (2002-2005): Dept. of Physics, IISc, Bangalore. My masters project was titled "Effect of interaction and a static impurity on the conductance of a one dimensional quantum wire" and it was supervised by Prof. Diptiman Sen.

— Ph.D. (2005 - 2009): Center for High Energy Physics, IISc, Bangalore. My thesis was titled "Transport in quasi-one-dimensional quantum systems" and my Ph. D adviser was Prof. Diptiman Sen.

This thesis was adjudged to be the "Best Ph. D thesis" in theoretical physics during the period of 2009-2011 at IISc, and was awarded the "Kumari Meera Memorial award" for the same.
